I have several tape drives in plants that have a lot of sawdust and a 
couple that do a lot of welding.  LTO and DLT have been far more 
reliable for me than DAT ever was in those environments.  That said, 
there are a lot of options for backup to disk and backup to "the cloud" 
that may fit the bill depending how much data you have, how much it 
changes and what your recovery needs are.
