But with a Cadillac, you're just getting three *different* colors of
injection molded plastic. And some of it is chromed, and some has fake
wood finish.

Yup. GM's structure is utterly irrational. They should have dropped
half their marques decades ago and kept just three brands, four at most:

GMC - ALL the trucks, and ONLY trucks. No other division may sell
trucks, and that includes SUVs. The whole idea of a Cadillac SUV is
de-facto farcical.

Chevy or Pontiac - inexpensive-to-midmarket family cars and "sporty"
cars. And for fuck's sake, the F-body and the Corvette are NOT
competitors, they're complementary models aimed at different segments of
the same market. Don't hobble one for the sake of making the other look
shinier.

Buick or Olds - upmarket "luxury" cars, *on different underlying
platforms* than the ones sold by Cheviac. Possibly keep Caddy around
SOLELY as a manufacturer of *purpose-designed from the ground up* limos
and personal-luxury cars, actually *built up to the standard* of what
they're marketed as, not Buicks with extra chrome and pimp upholstery.

Yup. Utterly stupid. Nothing but brand dilution and pointless
duplication for the sake of duplication. Hey - you're branches of the
same company, you should COMPLEMENT each other's products, WTF are you
doing trying to COMPETE against each other?!?
