AT&T is 850 and 1900, it depends on the area. T-Mobile is
predominately 1900 (T-Mobile's G3 is 1700, this is why iPhones on T-
Mobile are kinda pointless) but they have roaming agreements with
smaller carriers that may be on 850. G3 services range from 1700 to
2100 from my reading.
Another alternative would be to get one of your relatives/friends to
pick up a used phone from Craigslist; you could pick a carrier and not
worry about lock/unlocked that way.
