Absolutely. If it runs Win7, it can run Windows Server 2008 R2, which
means it can run free MS Hyper-V Server R2 [0] (managed from Vista,
Win7 or Server 2008).
You'd have to check the chipset for ESX support (thinking disk and NIC
*might* be issues), but it could be a nice little "accessory" VM
server.
Solaris with those eSATA ports could be very, very interesting (ZFS,
Containers, etc.)...
Apparently the link was part of a Napster deal, as there is an apology
that Napster isn't supported on the first page, where it mentions the
$60 Promo Gift Card. (Not sure how the price went up to $269 from $229
base config, but the discount is certainly welcome)
The ideal virtualization config would have to be:
Base config ($269 - 70 = $199)
Neo X2 6850e CPU ($80)
8 Gig RAM ($169)
Win7 Home Premium x64 (+$30)
Total of $478 (with a $60 Promo Gift card for later HD upgrade, if desired)
A 4 Gig RAM system would save you $130, since Win7 is only needed to
get past Dell System Configuration system, for a price of $348 (with a
$60 Promo Gift card for later HD upgrade, if desired), but only a
dual-core proc with no CPU upgrade options.
