I never got around to trying that.

What I did try, and resolved all graphics problems (while creating its
own new issues) was just installing 10.04 alpha 3.  Seems stable, except
for the new software center.  I'll stick with apt-get and/or synaptic,
thank you.

But, graphics and acceleration work perfectly, and everything else seems
fine. 

Coming soon, some notes on trying OpenSolaris on this board.
