I am reminded of a friend 15 years ago who replaced the ROM in his
car's ECM with his hacked version. The results were not quite what he
expected.

Why do you think the Lancer is popular as a "street car".  It's computer
is easily hackable.
You can get cables and software for some cars on the 'net.
