Possibly wind a thick ring of insulation tape on the wire just behind
the RJ45 connector to give it some heft and possibly make it fall out
less easily. An extra layer of tape, on the three non-conductive sides
of the RJ45 plug itself will make it fit more snugly into the socket
too. Personally, when I make a cable I never put a boot on it - can't
stand them.

I bought a whole bunch of DB9-RJ45 and DB25-RJ45 converters (the kind
that you wire yourself) on eBay and have been happily on YOST since.
