Find someone who pulls cable for a living to cut off the mod-plugs, slip
on the boots, and install new mod-plugs. For someone who's good at it, it
wouldn't take more[0] than about 20 seconds/cable, and likely wouldn't
cost you very much.
Hacking on a boot afterwards will probably just annoy you.
[0] The hardest part would be temporarily evicting EIA-568B from muscle
memory.
