This was typed on my phone, so it was both short and contained a serious
typo.
For PCI device passthrough and similar shennanigans to work, your
hardware needs to have an IOMMU aka "Intel VT-d." Most servers have
IOMMUs.
It's pretty uncommon in desktops and laptops.
