Personally, I use spinning-rust drives; for my backups, the price of
solid-state outweighs the speed and physical ruggedness.
But, for monthly backups, I find that I don't actually need a removable
drive. Power-cycling the relevant host once a month for a disk swap is
not that big a price; I keep that disk on a machine that does little
enough else that I find that acceptable.
For me. You may disagree - I'm just mentioning the possibility in case
you hadn't even considered it.
