IIRC you can configure the RAID card to act as a bpass throughb of sorts,
as youbve discovered. In my R410 I just pulled out the RAID card entirely.
I donbt know if the R710 has enough SAS ports on the MB to support
individual drives for all the drive bays. I know the R410 does and I ran
some SATA drives in mine.
