[geeks] Robert Widlar - what was he on about?

For as much as Bob Widlar (on digital logic:  "any idiot can count to one"), the guru of analog design, contributed to the world of electronics, information on him seems kind of scarce.  There are anecdotes etc. and a decent Wikipedia page but I can't find a biography or a book about the significance of what he did.

Any references?  How would I learn more about his designs and why they were so ground-breaking?
