eSATA is sata protocol over tweaked electrical specs (minor enough that passive adapters are usually good enough), and new connectors.

I suspect difficulty in googling for the card you want, is that pci is a subset of pci express.

sil3112 is a pci sata chip that may be what you want (pretty sure it is sorted by netbsd) and searching for that directly should help find a card for you. There is also a sil3114 variant as well to consider.
