Ahh... This could explain your problems. Patch number 109326-01
replaces /usr/lib/libresolv.so.2 to fix bugid #4284409:

4284409 libresolv does not protect itself from netscape provided poll routine

Let me know if you can't get this patch off of sunsolve.
