Hah, I'm from Boston, and I learned to drive when I was a kid in northern
New Hampshire in winter.
I moved to the Bay Area from Boston six months ago, and when it even RAINS
here it's like puppies on ice. Hell there are half a dozen spinouts on dry
days.

I moved to Austin in september of '96. The following February, they had
a *freeze*. Thats it, not even snow. The entire town shut down. "dont
travel unless necessary" etc.
Me, being from slightly further north (Oklahoma City), just laughed
and went about my business, in my '87 Firebird (e.g., NO traction to
speak of, rear-wheel drive) and got around just fine....
