File Mangaer (CDE 1.2) does indeed. OpenWindows' file manager (ick)
provides a bit more information.
I suspect that what he needs is a CLI tool to run to find the number of
files in a large number of sub-dirs. My guess would be to du -a /dirname >
name.txt and then do a word count on the text file. Could be scripted but
lordy i'm too tired to work it out right now. Work. ick.

Doesn't the 'file manager' count the files in the lower left corner when you
select a directory (in the CDE desktop). I've sat through several 'long
counts' after clicking my way into /bin or /etc. Wouldn't do
subdirectories, though...

How do you get the number of files in a given directory? I can get the
total size, individual size, date, time, etc. but not how many files there
are. Does this show up anywhere easily?
What I need this for is I need to justify why we need to purchase another
Solaris workstation and the CAD software to go with it. I need to know how
many of the CAD files are in the /storage directory on the server. (They
would like me to start moving engineers to NT but I'm not willing to do that
yet - the NT version of the same CAD software, ExpertCAD, is not up to snuff
AFAIC.)
Anybody?
Thanks in advance!
