  They are.  The classic has mono 8bit 8KHz audio and a
CG3-equivalent framebuffer, while the LX has stereo 16bit 44.1KHz
audio and a CG6-equivalent framebuffer.  The LX also has onboard ISDN
which the Classic does not.
