If you're using gcc, you definately want to use at least -j2, and
perhaps more.  I've got a few packages that I compile once a week or so
(to get some changes), and on one of my slower single proc boxes, -j3 is
faster than -j2 or -j4, and much faster than no multi-jobs option at
all.  I'd go with -j2 on there, unless you've got lots of time to burn
figuring out which number of jobs is best for which packages.  :)
