Friend of mine built an autofire circuit for his Laser Tag rifle with a
555, then added an amplification stage to the output to drive a bank of
LEDs in front of a fresnel lens.  It was the Laser Tag equivalent of a
sawed-off shotgun loaded with bird shot, lousy for sniper work but would
hit anything in a 120 degree cone at close range.

We let him use it because more often than not he would nail himself off of
some reflecting surface.  :)
