[SunRescue] text mailer?

ok, so this might be the wrong place for it, but is there a good text mode
mailer (I can't find my old version of Pine, the new ones leave "remains" in
/var/spool/mail) that DOES NOT use vi as the editor?  I still can't figure
it out, and after hundreds (well, maybe only dozens) of hours of having to
telnet in on another shell and "kill" it, I'm not going to try anymore.
Mutt and elm work well for reading mail, but I can't write any...  thanks,
