I've mostly won the battle for now I think. The biggest grief I get
these days, other than the fact that the garage is too full of stuff to
allow even her small vehicle in, is that the power bill is way too high
and that the basement is *hot* in the summer instead of cool like most
"normal" people's basements are.
I'd air-condition the machine room in the basement but that would make
the power bill even higher -- meanwhile it's not really too hot for
mostly surplus gear that's had lots of burn-in time anyway.... The only
thing I really worry about are the UPS batteries -- they're some of the
most expensive things I've spent cash money on!
Power here is currently $0.0746/kWh. If it were half that I could more
easily afford to run a couple of my 3/260's and the necessary
air-conditioners too in addition to the current equipment, but at ~800w
each, and all of that converted to heat too I could only run them in the
depth of winter anyway....
Now if I had free power I'd fire up the PDP-11's in the garage too and
at least in the winter it could be a nice cosy workspace too! :-)
