According to the FEH, it's the other way around: the CPU will only take
4M or 16M SIMMs, where the expansion board also allows 1M. I remember being
annoyed by this when I was doing research after getting my 4/6xx
motherboard, since it greatly increased the price of the minimum memory
configuration.
Has anybody actually tried 1M SIMMs on the CPU board?
