I probably should have qualified what i wrote -- i build and run
servers, not workstations. So I agree, running anything beyond
2.5.1 on sun4c hardware is an exercise in patience. My first sparc
- a sparc 1 that i bought in 1995 - did real well as a workstation
with OpenWindows, 64megs, and sol 2.5.1. But for a graphical user
interface, i stick with the dreaded windows on a pc. yes, that's an
exercise in patience (and frustration!) too, but i can't play
Half-Life on a sparc...
(besides, i've yet to come across a better term emulator for any
platform than SecureCRT, which has the fastest emulation engine of
anything on the planet, and is only available for windows...)
