I haven't been paying attention to the thread, but an E450 won't run 
with the cover off. It's very possible that the hidden swich (which I
couldn't find) isn't being tripped or the cover wasn't replaced correctly.

An E450 will run with any of the front doors open (access do disks, CD,
etc.) It has to be able to run with those doors open because one of the
things the E450 boasts is hot-swap disks.
