Yes. You can add a second VSIMM, but you need the 13w3 "header card" that goes
with it.

The VSIMM was faster than the only other 24-bit option at the time, which was
a ZX/LEO card. Probably cheaper too.

I think Linux supports it.

Not well. I dont think any of the BSDs support it at all, but Linux will
run SMP.

SM51 is much faster than a SM50 - the difference being 1mb of Level2
external cache.

Same case (if its an aurora 1 with the 1/3rd Height cdrom); the only difference
is the motherboard.
