[rescue] Rescued HP C1708T scsi somethingorother... what is it?

OK, at todays state surplus feeding frenzy, there was this forlorn
box about the size of a large deskside tower labelled HP.... for a buck.
Not wanting to let good scsi cannonfodder go to waste, and seeing it
was but a single buckeroo de realme, the old fool just had to lug it home.

I see the word optical on it, and I found a model number HP C1708T,
but nothing in the HP site keys it out, other than suggesting it
was covered through HPUX-10.1, and it might be some sort of optical
jukebox thingy.

Anyone know what this thing really might be, or might be used for?

I figured for a buck, it might make a good scsi external drive cabinet
of some kind....

Any suggestions or insights appreciated....
