Hmm. That guys resume compares the SPARCcluster to a Auspex, and since DaveM
has an extremely impressive look Auspex, that made me think to look up info on
it.
So, I find that Oracle approved it. Err, does this mean that Oracle is running
off of NFS shares? I was under the impression that NFS was supposed to be
pretty bad, and something that could potentially have serious problems (like
reusing the numbers it used for file IDs, etc). Was I underestimating NFS, or
what?
All I really know about it is that it always seems to be the first thing on
the network to give me grief, and the hardest to fix whenever there are
problems. Still having trouble getting my 3Com lanplex 2500 to coexist with
NFS. Everything works flawlessly, but NFS writes can sometimes freeze the
whole NFS subsystem, and quickly swapping in a hub between the two machines
(the linux NFS server and the NetBSD/sparc box or the server and the lintel
workstation) always fixes it.
