I live in the Washington, DC area and tech jobs here aren't doing too
badly because they are tied to the defense industry (yes, I'm a
blood-sucking defense contractor in my day job), but having MCSE will
hurt and they like a BSEE or BSCS (or equivalent). Then again, the
small company I work for has a system admin that (I don't believe) has
either.
The cost of living is high, although not at the nosebleed-level James
mentioned.

here it's gotten stagnant. house prices have plummeted (and so has rent)
by half in the last few months. but unfortunately there arent any jobs
to
take advantage of it :(
