I don't know if the .223 was designed that way.  If it wasn't, it certainly
was a fortunate side-effect (fortunate, in the coldest of ways).  The fact
that you could have an entry wound in your thigh, and exit wound in your
gut, makes that round a nasty little thing.  Tumblers are extremely lethal.

It's cold, but true....
