Not if you have a framebuffer and keyboard available.

What I tend to do is disconnect the keyboard and attach 
a vt100 on the 1st serial port.

Lack of keyboard should force the machine to drop back to the
serial console.  

(Unless of course someone has nobbled your NVRAM settings....)
