Hi everyone!
I received a grand total of two responses. One was flat-out pretty direct:
"No, you must use Disksuite to do UFS logging under Solaris 2.6." The
other response was a question about what exactly UFS logging is and why it
should be used.
Here's a quick explanation of logging-- essentially data which has yet
to be written to disk is 'scribbled' down to the loging region of the disk
(set aside with UFS logging or with a logging fs like VXFS.) If the system
were to crash you don't have to wait for the extra-long fsck of the disk
while it sanity checks the data. The data which is 'scribbled' provides
information which allows the disks the check quickly and correctly with
less (if any) lost data. Logging can also be called jounaling.
I'll admit to that being really watered down, but without my morning Dr.
Pepper or Coffee, don't expect much more than that :^)
