Yeah... the number (0) is the instance number of the card in the system.
If you had two hme0 cards, you'd have hme0 and hme1. Then we get to the
'hme' part-- the name of the device. 
joke:
	'high-maintanence ethernet' very early Sun 10/100 chipsets didn't
        do 100Mbit too well. To this day, autonegotiation on this chipset
        has difficulty with Cisco switches which are hard-coded to 100Mbit
        Full-Duplex. The resolution for this is fixing things in
        /etc/system

	'happy-meal ethernet' -- it was an early combo chipset, like a
        McDonald's happy-meal....
