If most of your traffic is not between clients, they are essentially
sharing the bw of the server link.  If your clients are running
10Mb, you will see a performance improvement by running the server
at 100Mb.  This is like your scenario of multiple paths to it.
It allows the switch to spend less time holding packets in buffers.

Hopefully, I'm not disagreeing 1 iota from the previous posters.
