[rescue] doubt regarding wireles ethernet...

It actually sounds to me like he's got a pair of those little data
transceivers that are frequently advertised in the back of Circuit
Cellar Ink. They max out at 19.2K, so pumping 20Mhz manchester-coded
data into them will not get very far.
Serial PPP will be the way to go...
