The problem was disks on the internal SCSI bus would show up as

Target 0
Target 6
ok

when poked with probe-scsi.  Attempting to boot from anything attached to 
an FSBE gave:

Trap # (hex) be
ok

All devices are fine and work on an IPC so that's not it, termination is 
ok, the LX is just stuffed.
