I'm running 5.0 under Win2k and exports to .gif work fine for me.
Make sure you have the patch that brings you up to 5.0c. There
was a bug in 5.0 FCS that hosed the .gif export (connecting lines
were all screwed up.) Perhaps under Win2K that problem manifests
itself as a core dump under Win2k?
