Ok, the type 5 key board does in fact work with an SS1+. 
I'm not sure about the type 4/5 mouse issue, I do not yet
have an OS installed (hard disk issues) so I have not had a 
chance to test any of my mice. A type 4 does have a red LED
light up underneath when connected to a type 5 keyboard,
like non-Sun branded serial versions of that era 
Mouse Sytems/IMSI optical mice I have used in the past.
