sorry, no help on solaris on your platform.

But I can tell you that mismatched rs232 params will give junko characters.

If you get most of your text, your speed is probably correct.
try 9600/8/someparity/1  (technically, parity requires 9600/7/parity/1) or
9600/7/someparity/1
its not likely that more than 1 stop bit is required.
Most parity options are even or odd. Some other choices
are mark and space.
You can also try 9600/7/n/1, but its not likely.

As for why the mismatch? It might be termcap or it might be the O/S default for
that platform. No idea.
