Well, when creating rndc.key files, it shure 
coredumps upon me, but not before actually 
creating the file (although before writing the 
copy in bind's chroot directory):

# /usr/local/sbin/rndc-confgen -a -c /usr/local/etc/rndc.key -r /dev/urandom -t /var/named -u named                    
isc_mem_get(23) failed
mem.c:834: INSIST(ctx->stats[i].gets == 0) failed.
Abort (core dumped)

Well, this is on my private mail gateway anway; at work 
everything will shurely be in 9.1 - land for some time...
