[rescue] alpha server 1000 4/266 info needed

Ok for building a new network at a local private religous school I
got as my reward an alpha server 1000 4/266 with 96 megs of ram and 2 gigs
worth of hard drive space in the deskside configuration (double wide floor
case). The process of rescuing went something like this:

Me "Hey an alpha server 1000, what are you using this for?"
Her: " I don't know. A parent of one of the students told us we needed it,
started installing it, and then never came back."
Me: "Does it work? It shows up on the network."
Her: "As far as I know. I called compaq to upgrade it and they told me that
it would cost to much and that I should by this other server that you are
installing."
Me: "Well then can I have it?"
Her: "Let me check."<10 minutes later> "Sure take it."

So it boots all the way to NT (she thought it was unix) It also has
some digital unix on it and an arc Bios. I believe that redhat 7.1 would go
on here just peachy keen. Now to my questions (enough bragging as they say).
I want to upgrade the ram first. It has one bank open (of course the first
thing I did on getting it home was take it apart). I did a search and it
seem to take ECC 72 pin simms. I then did a search on were to buy them and
found that apparently people who sell ECC simms smoke a lot of crack cause
their prices were HIGH! about $1200 for 256 megs with lower amounts not
being much more resonable. Does anyone know a good source for this ram that
is not going to make me want to cry with their price?

This server also has the hot swap hard drive bays in it. I would
LOVE to add the other 5 drives to this system. I saw on E-bay similar drive
bays for the 2100 series but I am unsure if the hard drive sleds cross
populate or not. Can I use any old digital hard drive sled and does anyone
know where I can get them at a resonable prices. Also what is the max size
of a hard drive that I can put into them? Compaq lists max internal storage
at 28gigs for the 1000. I assume that this means 4 gigs a sled (28 gigs / 7
sleds)but I may be wishing here also as I have a couple 4.3 gig 50 pins
laying around not doing anything productive. Anyone with any ideas in this
area let me know. I want to get this up and running as it is the first
"serious" looking kit that I have brought into my home.
