$localOfficeSupplyStore keeps selling Back-UPS units (the ones that look like
over sized power strips) for $29.95. Spike protectors start at that price.
Stuff labeled surge protector can be had for less though.
I'm kicking myself for turning down a 220v, mainframe power conditioning unit
2 years ago. It was large enough that ignoring stove, water heater, and
dryer, it would have been able to condition the whole house, elimating the
need for as many spike protectors. Oh well.
