It started that crap in whatever version was included with Slackware 4.
That's when I made the permanent switch from elvis to vim.

Now why the -hell- would you want to edit a file in an editor?  Clearly
you meant to view it, otherwise you'd use Nutscrape Composer.  Get with
the program.
