On a similar note, my apartment building has had a massive problem 
with cockroaches over the past few years. Bombing the entire
building did nothing, commerical sprayers coming in did nothing,
putting bait traps everywhere helped a bit, but not entirely.

Over the past maybe six months, they've almost entirely disappeared.
I see one around extremely rarely.

A few days ago I finally figured it out. I saw a centipede.
Centipedes are like the great white sharks of the insect
world. If you have *one* centipede in your house, you won't have
any bug problems.
