nice thought, but all that would happen is companies would never
officially EOL any products. I think Apples opinion is that 7.1 is EOL,
everything newer has potential production use, so they don't let it go
free, this keeps honest people from running them in production, because
Apple doesn't want to support the stuff before 9, and wants income from
people using their OS every day.
If they gave 7.6 and greater away there would be people running fairly
modern equipment on a free OS, doing day to day work on it, and Apple
suits don't like the thought of people using Macs but not paying Apple.
It is a shift from the old days, when any OS your machine would run was
free, they just let the hardware limit how far you could upgrade.
Come on everybody, with Steve now "A brand new Mac for $99" How many
times has he said that now since 8.0?
