This is definitely possible--but unless you already have in
hand an external modem, you're going to end up spending more
to buy a new modem than your budget for the box.
If you already have an external modem, then you only need to
ensure that the non-PC box has adequate serial ports--ISTR that
some of the earlier sun4c had crappy serial ports. It should
be possible to find *something* for <$30, but you'll need to
look in your local area to avoid paying for shipping. Where
are you located?
[ If you don't already have an external modem, then let me know
if you're willing to deal with a castoff ugly Pentium POS
(I believe it's a P100 with 32MB of RAM). I ran a 486 board
in the same case as my gateway for > 1 year without problem
though. I was just about to offer it around it at work if
it's still functional, but I'll throw it into the mail for
the cost of shipping. Needs disk, CD, video card, etc--might
still have floppy and some other relevant items. Not sure
what in the 486 was causing problems other than general
wonkiness, though, so not sure if this is of interest. ]
