The onboard video relies on monitor sense bits, from either the monitor
or programmed via cable or switches, to detect the maximum resolution of
the monitor and perhaps its color/monochrome capability.
When I used LinuxPPC on a 7300 with a PC VGA cable plus a no-switch
adapter, I was able to use all resolutions of the monitor. MacOS
mis-sensed the monitor as a lower capability one.
