I won an auction lot of 15"ers a couple of years ago, and the software kit
from NCD was $300 or so when I asked. I found one somewhere else (full
kit) for $35 and promptly gave up on the project afterward. But that's
probably the "ridiculous amount of money" you'd hear quoted, more or less.
