My partial bad. :) I had a vivid picture in my mind of the slots, but
unfortunately the picture was of an Ultra 2. :) I don't know if Sun sold
any 1.6" disks intended for the U1 (a quick look at
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/4u-Workstation/4uWKSTN_Ultra_1_140E_170E_200E.html
doesn't show any that I recognize as half-height.

Ah, you're using the CDROM bay and the CDROM connector, rather than the
hard drive bays. I wouldn't really recommend this to a novice, although it
is a creative solution if you have a need for more than two drives, or a
larger physical size drive, or a ST.....N disk. For the "official" disk
slots you must use SCA, as there is almost certainly not enough room for
an adapter in there if you put the cover back on.
