Odd.  How can you use them for your college apps if you don't know the
numbers?

I took the SATs, took the CHSPE to exempt myself from public school, then
started applying.  The lack of a secondary school grade history doesn't
really hurt you if you can show sufficient motivation and test results.
I went straight to a UC, but even a community college (with guaranteed
admission) would have been a step up from secondary school.  Sadly I blew
most of my chances to get scholarships, but at the time it was possible to
afford the UC system on minimum wage (still living with my parents).  I
didn't incur them additional financial hardship, and I got a start in
business.

Too many people get trapped in the idea that Jr. High/HS is an unchangable
constant.  Put your mind to it and you can change things as much as you
want.  If you (or your children) are bored, change things!  Sometimes the
only way to win is not to play.

The CHSPE is a joke, of course.  With a bit of coaching I got my (8 year
old at the time) sister to the point where she could credibly pass the
sample tests.  My parents wouldn't let her take it at the time, though.
