He didn't just 'dump' the glass of water down the carb, right?  I've used 
that method before by SLOWLY pouring water down the throat.  It IS 
supposed to clean carbon with the vapor, but I would guess it can also 
cause problems by overcooling spots on the piston or cylinder wall ?
